Red (Kitchens), White (China), and Blue (Grass)

I’m heading back to Kentucky for the 4th, and I’m very excited to be going there. There’s my family, of course, and I know we’ll be gathered around tables loaded with food, catching up with each other. And there’s the farm where I grew up, which seems to get more beautiful every time I visit.

But to be honest, I may be the most excited about seeing the kitchen again.

My brother now lives in the house where I grew up, and we have been updating it room-by-room. It’s become quite a showpiece, full of wonderful collections and collections with great personal meaning. Of course, being the interior designer in the family, I'm often asked for my help, and make no bones about giving my opinions. (I mean, I grew up there, and I am a professional!)

When my brother was ready to remodel the kitchen, he wanted something extraordinary (or was that me?). We went back and forth on a lot of ideas, but when we finally settled on barn red as the cabinet color we knew it was the perfect choice for the feeling at the farm.

As they say, “The kitchen is the heart of the home.” The rest of the house seemed to fall into place.

In a few weeks, when I’ve got some good photography, I’ll walk you through the design. Until then, have a lovely Fourth of July, and light a sparkler for me!
